Himachal Pradesh has been battered by heavy rain, flash floods, and several landslides. The disaster has disrupted lives in the hilly areas, leaving several areas cut off.

According to a report by PTI, the disaster has left at least 15 panchayats cut off near Pagal Nala on the Aut-Larji-Sainj road.

Multiple landslides in the area have blocked Chandigarh-Manali National Highway as Himachal Pradesh continues to witness heavy rain.

A toll shared by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) on Sunday evening says 352 roads, including three national highways, remain blocked, while 1,067 power distribution transformers (DTRs) and 116 water supply schemes are disrupted across the state.

Kullu district alone has reported 557 transformer disruptions, with Mandi reporting 385 disruptions and Lahaul-Spiti 112.

Video Captures Terrifying Visuals

A dramatic video shared by PTI shows a massive landslide in Kullu. Thick clouds of dust and debris can be seen billowing down the lush green hillside, obscuring much of the valley below. The destructive force of the landslide appears to have dislodged large portions of the slope, sending rocks and soil crashing down—likely blocking roads and endangering nearby settlements.

Another video shared by ANI shows Chandigarh–Manali National Highway blocked due to multiple landslides.

Restoration Work Underway

According to the officials cited by PTI, restoration efforts in Himachal Pradesh are underway on a war footing, but officials say progress is being hindered by frequent landslides, ongoing rainfall, and disruptions in high-altitude regions.

“The situation remains grim in several districts, especially in Mandi, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti, where heavy rainfall continues to hamper road connectivity, power supply, and water services,” the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) stated.

Since June 20, the monsoon fury has claimed 261 lives, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). 136 deaths were due to rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and house collapses. 125 people died in road accidents, largely triggered by slippery roads and low visibility.
