The remains of a Pakistani shell that exploded in Srinagar’s Dal Lake during Operation Sindoor in May were recovered during a routine cleaning drive, officials said on Saturday.

The object was discovered by teams from the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) and later taken to the nearest police station, where it has been kept for further examination and necessary action.

On the morning of May 10, a missile-like object had landed deep inside the Dal Lake, one of the most prominent tourist attractions in the Valley, triggering loud explosions that rocked Srinagar. Eyewitnesses recalled that smoke billowed from the water surface when the object landed. Security forces were immediately rushed to the spot and fished out the debris.

Officials further noted that on the same day, another suspected object was recovered from Lasjan on the outskirts of Srinagar after multiple blasts were reported across the city. Both incidents raised alarm among security agencies given the timing and locations of the explosions.

Operation Sindoor was India’s military response to Pakistan following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. The recovery of the shell debris underscores the intensity of the strikes and the continuing process of clearing unexploded remnants from sensitive areas.
