The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lauded Jasprit Bumrah’s fitting response to Haris Rauf’s ‘aeroplane’ celebration during the historic first Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan on Sunday night.

India won the match by five wickets. It was a closely contested game, going to the last over, with Tilak Varma’s unbeaten half-century and Kuldeep Yadav’s four wickets being the highlights.

The standout moment of the night came at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, where Jasprit Bumrah lit up the crowd by “downing an aircraft” — mimicking a plane crash — after cleaning up Haris Rauf in the penultimate over.

Bumrah delivered a scorching yorker that shattered Rauf’s off stump in the penultimate over. After the wicket, Bumrah gestured a crashing plane in a send-off to Rauf that went viral on social media.

This comes after Haris Rauf previously used the same gestures during the Super 4s game against India. After Pakistan endured a humiliating defeat, Rauf found himself surrounded by jeering Indian fans near the boundary ropes. Frustrated and agitated, the fiery pacer resorted to controversial celebrations that included aeroplane and 6-0 gestures.

Rauf’s “6-0″ sign and plane gestures went beyond playful banter, echoing Pakistan’s unverified claims of shooting down six Indian fighter jets during the 2019 border clash. Bumrah’s send-off, therefore, doubled as payback, mocking both Rauf’s cricketing celebration and its controversial symbolism.

BJP Reacts

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) posted about Bumrah’s gesture on social media and said, “India thrash Pakistan in #AsiaCup2025 final! ???????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ????????????????????????…  #????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????.”

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated India on its win. He further shared a photo of Bumrah’s gesture to Rauf and said, “Pakistan deserves this punishment.”

India Refuse To Take Trophy From Moshin Naqvi

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team refused to collect the 2025 Asia Cup trophy on Sunday. This unprecedented step was apparently taken because the trophy was supposed to be handed over by Mohsin Naqvi, who is not only the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) but also the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the interior minister of Pakistan.

A tense standoff delayed the start of the presentation ceremony. For over an hour, Naqvi remained on stage with other dignitaries slated to present the awards, while the Indian team waited nearby and the Pakistani players stayed in their dressing room.

Reports suggest the Indians were informed that Naqvi would hand over the trophy, a proposal they refused, saying they did not wish to interact with him.
