Noida Police has arrested three people, including the prime accused, Raja Mian, alias Ehsan, in a case involving the alleged forced religious conversion and marriage of a 28-year-old woman, India Today reported.

The case surfaced after the woman’s mother moved the Allahabad High Court seeking her daughter’s recovery. Acting on the court’s directions, police traced the woman, who is the mother of a six-year-old child, to Chennai and brought her back, the India Today report added.

Investigators revealed that the accused lured the woman into a relationship, forced her to convert to Islam, and changed her name before conducting a nikah using forged documents. Notably, the woman was still legally married to her husband and had not been divorced.

According to the report, Raja Mian’s family played an active role in the crime. His mother allegedly posed as the woman’s aunt, while his brother impersonated her sibling to facilitate the marriage. A local cleric also reportedly prepared a forged nikahnama (marriage contract).

An FIR was registered against five people, including Raja Mian, his father, mother, brother, and the cleric. Police have arrested Raja Mian, his father, and his mother, who have been sent to jail, while his brother and the cleric remain at large.
