BJP MP Kangana Ranaut took a defiant stance, declaring that no one can prevent her from visiting Tamil Nadu, after a Congress leader from the state stirred a row by saying that the actor-turned-politician “must be slapped” if she visits the state anytime soon.

Former Tamil Nadu Congress chief KS Alagiri’s controversial comment came in response to a question about an old statement made by Ranaut, in which she alleged that women activists could be hired to participate in protests for Rs 100.

While visiting Kullu to meet flood victims and assess the impact of the recent devastating rainfall, Ranaut said, “In our India, we can go anywhere and no one can stop us. As they say, if there are some who hate, there are also many who love.”

“In Tamil Nadu, I portrayed the role of Dr J. Jayalalithaa in Thalaivii. You may not believe it, but even our Opposition MPs, who were present in the House during a voting session, as they walked past in line, three or four of them addressed me as Thalaivii. That is how much affection they show me,” she added.

The BJP MP said an individual’s personal opinions would not make any difference, adding that such disrespectful remarks against women should not be used in a public space as it sends the wrong message to the people.

Her response came to Alagiri’s remarks, where she said, “Kangana Ranaut has made such loose talk many times. Once, when she was at the Delhi airport and a woman CRPF personnel slapped her, she later said it was because she had made derogatory remarks. When she comes this side (south), you should slap her without forgetting about it.”

The senior Congress leader defended his remarks by saying, “Kangana speaks with arrogance” and she was slapped by a CISF constable earlier.

‘My Restaurant Made A Sale Of Rs 50’

Ranaut, the BJP MP from Mandi, visited the disaster-affected areas of Solang and Palchan on Thursday in the Manali subdivision of Himachal’s Kullu district, interacted with the affected residents and took stock of the situation. The actor-turned-politician was briefed on the infrastructural and other damages by BJP leader and former MLA from Manali, Govind Singh Thakur, along with residents.

A video also surfaced showing Ranaut interacting with flood victims in Kullu, where she said she was deeply affected by the devastation caused by the recent rainfall, flash floods and landslides that left more than 400 dead since the start of the monsoon.

“My restaurant is also here, and it made a sale of only Rs 50 yesterday. We pay Rs 15 lakh in salaries only, and we could only do a business of Rs 50. Imagine what I must have gone through. Please understand my pain. I am a single woman,” she said, while chastising a reporter for interrupting her and asking her not to attack her.

Locals informed the MP that the entire Solang village is at risk of landsliding, as the Beas river is eroding the mountain on which the village sits. They suggested that channelising the water to divert the river’s course would be a necessary immediate remedy.

Since the onset of monsoon this year, the Himalayan state has witnessed 46 cloudbursts, 98 flash floods and 145 major landslides, while 419 people have died. Of those dead, 237 lost their lives in rain-related incidents and 182 in road accidents. About 479 people have suffered injuries, while 45 are still missing.
