Jammu-Kashmir Weather: Heavy rain continues to lash parts of the union territory. Schools and roads are closed due to the downpour.

Heavy rain has wreaked havoc across Jammu and Kashmir. The downpour has also triggered landslides in some regions, throwing life out of gear. The Chenab River is also flowing in full spate due to continuous rain. In view of the landslides, the traffic police have halted the movements of vehicles in Rajouri.
The Jammu-Rajouri national highway has also been closed due to a landslide following continuous rainfall in the district.

Speaking about the roads being closed, Rajouri Traffic Police Bodh Raj said, “Due to the road being closed, we have stopped all the vehicles. When we get orders from above, we will release the vehicles from here accordingly… We have stopped these vehicles since yesterday due to frequent landslides… Our appeal to the people is that until the roads are repaired, they should refrain from leaving their homes…”
All Government And Private Schools Remain Closed
All government and private schools across Jammu and Kashmir have been closed today due to heavy rainfall and weather alerts issued for the region.
“In continuation of this office order DSEJ/GEN/46208-46 dated 02-09-2025 8 in reference to the weather alert issued by the DAD and also keeping in view the incessant rains, landslides, flash floods, and severe waterlogging in low-lying areas, all government and private schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed till 05-09-2025 to ensure the safety of students and staff. It is further ordered that online classes shall be conducted wherever possible to maintain continuity of education,” read an official order.
IMD Issues Rain Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several areas of the union territory until September 7.
According to the weather department, there’s a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir.
“Today’s Weather Warning: Heavy to very heavy at a few places over Haryana and Chandigarh, at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir,” said the weather department.
