These days, schools charge high fees, and parents often struggle to keep up with the rising costs of education. At the same time, many expect better standards from the very people running these schools. Now, a photo of a cheque written by a school principal is making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

The incident comes from Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, where the principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Ronhat, signed a cheque of Rs 7,616. While the numbers on the cheque were written correctly, the words left everyone shocked. Instead of the proper wording, the cheque read: “Saven Thursday six Harendra sixty rupees only.”

Photo Circulates Online

A user on X (formerly Twitter) shared the photo of the cheque with the caption: “Rs 7,616 ..…‘Seven Thursday Six Harendra Sixty Rupees Only.’ The check of Rs 7,616 issued by the principal of the Government Senior Secondary School located in Ronhat, Sirmaur, is making headlines. More than the amount, this check has gone viral because of its words.”

The post, uploaded on September 29, has already gained over 2,000 views. Soon, users began reacting with jokes and sharp comments.

For many, the cheque turned into a source of endless jokes, but for the school system, it was a huge embarrassment. People online questioned how a principal could mix up “Thursday” for “Thousand” and “Harendra” for “Hundred.”

Some even asked what kind of lessons students could expect when their head of school makes such mistakes.

A person wrote, “Fault in the autocorrect system of pen!”

Another called it, “A burden on the country and society, the master people of Himachal.”

Someone else remarked, “Reservation hatao desh bachao.”

Embarrassment For The School

Reports later confirmed that the cheque was rejected by the bank, and the school had to issue a corrected one. But the damage had already been done. The photo of the rejected cheque spread across social media, turning into a meme-worthy moment and sparking debates about the quality of education.

While a few reportedly defended the principal, saying spelling mistakes can happen to anyone, others argued that errors of this kind carry more weight when they are part of an official document with a signature and school stamp, especially when public money is involved.
