Navnoor Singh, son of the Finance Ministry official killed in the BMW accident in Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan, has alleged his father’s life could have been saved had he been taken to a nearby hospital, rather than a facility nearly 20 km away.

Navjot  Singh (52), Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, succumbed to his injuries, while his wife was injured after a BMW allegedly hit his motorcycle near Delhi Cantonment metro station on Ring Road on Sunday.

Soon after the accident, the two were rushed to a hospital nearly 19 km from the accident spot.

“I got a call from a family friend who told me about the accident and that my parents are admitted to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar,” he told news agency ANI.

“The accident happened at nearly 1.30 pm, a woman driving a BMW hit my parents’ motorcycle,” he said.

“There was definitely something wrong, they were taken to a hospital 20 km away, which had no facilities. My father was declared dead at the hospital, but people there said that death instantly after an accident is very rare,” he alleged.

“There are many superspeciality hospitals near Dhaula Kuan and AIIMS too, if they (his parents) had been sent there, he (his father) could have been saved,” Navnoor added.

He also alleged that the hospital where his parents were taken belonged to someone known to the woman driving the car at the time of the accident.

“Those who were in the car have sustained minor injuries and are in the same hospital, but I am not sure if it is from a trusted source,” Navnoor said.

“My parents were sent to the hospital in a delivery van. When my mother gained consciousness, she was in the passenger seat and looked back to see my father lying down,” he said.
