FM Nirmala Sitharaman Exclusive Interview Live: FM Says New GST Regime Will Address Problem Of Classification

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Interview Live: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is speaking to Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi on Friday to discuss the landmark reforms approved by the GST Council, along with global trade challenges and India’s financial policies.

The GST Council, chaired by Sitharaman, approved major tax cuts on Wednesday that will take effect from September 22. The revised system reduces the structure to just two main slabs of 5% and 18%, replacing the current 12% and 28% rates, with a special 40% slab reserved for luxury and sin goods.

Sitharaman will also address Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to buy ‘Swadeshi’ goods and the strain in relations between India and the United States following Donald Trump’s tariff hike on Indian imports. In addition, she will outline India’s broader financial policy priorities.
