An FIR has been lodged against the driver of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s vehicle after it hit a police constable in Bihar’s Nawada district during the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra,’ two days ago, officials said on Thursday.

The incident took place two days ago on Tuesday when the constable, identified as Mahesh Kumar, posted as the bodyguard of Sadar SDPO Forest, fell in front of the Congress MP’s vehicle when the convoy was passing through Bhagat Singh Chowk. He sustained injuries due to falling.

Nawada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Dhiman confirmed the incident to news agency PTI and said, “Yes, a case has been registered against the driver. Further details will be made known in due course.”

The victim in his complaint said that on the day of the rally, he was posted on law and order duty at Bhagat Singh Chowk. As soon as Gandhi’s program ended at around 12:00 pm, he was hit by the car, due to which he suffered injuries.

The SP had earlier said the constable tripped in front of a vehicle in the convoy, which “barely brushed against his feet”, and sustained injuries.

Meanwhile, the BJP slammed the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition over the incident.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla shared a video on X in which a car carrying Rahul Gandhi was seen running over a police constable. The policeman was later seen limping. The footage quickly went viral on social media.

“Rahul Gandhi’s car crushed a police constable who was critically injured. Dynast did not even get down to check on him,” Poonawalla said in a post on X.

However, Gandhi was later seen assisting the injured officer. A video shared by news agency PTI showed Gandhi stopping his vehicle, asking his supporters to bring the constable to his jeep, offering him water and making him sit inside as the yatra continued.
