In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan on Tuesday announced the successful test of its new long-range cruise missile, Fatah-IV, which has capabilities comparable to India’s BrahMos. This development is seen as a strategic move to bolster Pakistan’s conventional missile capabilities.

The Pakistani Army’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated that the Fatah-IV is a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 750 kilometres (470 miles), and is equipped with advanced avionics and modern navigation systems. However, the launch site was not disclosed. In comparison, India’s BrahMos missile reportedly has a range of 800 kilometers.

What The Pakistani Army Says

The ISPR claims that the Fatah-IV can evade enemy air defence systems by flying close to the ground, ensuring high accuracy in hitting targets. This missile is expected to enhance the range, lethality, and durability of Pakistan’s conventional missile system. Reports in Pakistani media suggest that the Fatah-IV can penetrate Indian air defence systems, including the S-400.

The ISPR praised this achievement as a significant milestone for the newly formed Army Rocket Force Command, stating that it will further strengthen Pakistan’s long-range conventional strike capability.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, and the chiefs of the three armed forces congratulated the scientists and engineers involved in the successful test.

President Zardari described the Fatah-IV as a “milestone” in Pakistan’s defence system and a testament to the country’s “scientific self-reliance,” asserting that “Pakistan’s defence was and remains impenetrable.”

What Makes Fatah-IV Stand Out

The Fatah-IV missile boasts impressive features, including a range of 750 km, speed of Mach 0.7 (approximately 865 km/h), and an accuracy with a missing target probability of only 4 meters. It has a payload capacity of 330 kg, measures 7.5 meters in length, and weighs 1,530 kg.

Both India and Pakistan, nuclear-armed neighbours, have fought three wars since their independence in 1947, and regularly test new missile versions with each other in mind.

The ISPR highlighted that achieving such a low CEP (4 meters) is a remarkable accomplishment for Pakistan’s missile technology.
