At the centenary celebrations of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the organisation for its dedication to nation-building and social welfare. The event marked a historic milestone, with the Prime Minister releasing a specially designed commemorative postage stamp and a Rs 100 coin to honour the RSS’s contributions over the past 100 years.
PM Modi paid homage to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, recognising his vision in establishing an organisation focused on cultural awareness, discipline, and service. “Even former President Pranab Mukherjee was surprised by RSS simplicity when he visited the HQ. RSS is the first responder on ground, when it comes to crisis,” he remarked, praising the swayamsevaks’ selfless dedication to India’s welfare.

“The RSS has worked in the remotest regions, where it was often impossible to even deliver basic benefits. Across these areas, they have celebrated and preserved local traditions and cultures like no one else. They have played a vital role in safeguarding India’s rich cultural heritage,” added PM Modi.
Speaking at the ceremony, PM Modi highlighted the symbolism of the new currency and stamp. “This Rs 100 coin has the National Emblem on one side, and on the other, there is an image of Bharat Mata, seated on a lion in ‘varad mudra’, with swayamsevaks bowing before her. This is the first time in independent India’s history that Bharat Mata has been shown on our currency,” he said. He also noted that the stamp commemorates the participation of RSS swayamsevaks in the 1963 Republic Day Parade, calling it a “historic moment of pride”.
Reflecting on India’s progress over the past century, PM Modi said, “100 years ago, the challenges were different. Today, as we move towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with many having overcome poverty, India has become a global voice.” He warned of conspiracies aimed at undermining national unity and emphasised the RSS’s continued role in addressing social and cultural challenges.
