- On Saturday, her husband was arrested based on the victim’s sister – Kanchan’s complaint. On Sunday, the cops arrested the accused mother-in-law, Daya, 55.
- In the latest arrests made on Monday, the police nabbed the victim’s brother-in-law, Rohit Bhati, 28, and her father-in-law, Satya Veer, 55. They were evading arrest and had been on the run since the crime on August 21.
- With their arrests, all four individuals named in the FIR have been taken into custody.
- Kanchan — who is married to Rohit, Vipin’s elder brother — earlier shared disturbing videos on social media — one showed Nikki being dragged by her hair, and another showed her in flames before collapsing.
- When Vipin was being taken to the crime spot for evidence recovery on Sunday, he attempted to flee custody, prompting the police to shoot him in his leg in the encounter.
- Shortly after his injury, he was admitted to the hospital, where he told news agency ANI that he had “no remorse” for what he had done, claiming that Nikki “took her own life” and that he did not kill her.
- However, he told the police during interrogation that he allegedly killed her after an altercation over Nikki’s Instagram reels and her desire to reopen the beauty parlour – which he said “was not allowed in his family” – according to a report in Hindustan Times.
The victim’s father demanded an encounter of the accused and urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to raze his residence. He said that his family gave everything that Vipin demanded during marriage, including Scorpio, Bullet bike, and gold, yet they killed her over a Rs 36 lakh dowry demand nine years after marriage. The duo had got married in 2016.
Kanchan said that the crime took place in front of her and Nikki’s minor son, who also spoke about the horror on the camera.
