Cyber fraudsters, who usually target working professionals and women, have now turned their eyes on senior citizens. In two shocking cases, elderly men in Ahmedabad were conned out of over Rs 1.15 crore under the lure of quick profits in the stock market and cryptocurrency.

In one case, a 62-year-old retired man from Navrangpura received a call in June from someone posing as a “Chief Investment Officer.” The fraudster promised huge returns through stock market and IPO investments.

The victim was added to a “trial group” giving stock tips and later tricked into downloading an app. Over time, the gang convinced him to invest more, even showing a fake SEBI letter to gain trust. Eventually, he lost Rs 60.67 lakh in just a month.

In another case, a 66-year-old retired Indian Oil employee from Shahibaug was befriended on Facebook. The fraudster promised big returns on Bitcoin with minimal investment. After making him download an app and share his bank details, the gang siphoned off Rs 55.10 lakh, even demanding 30% commission on supposed profits.

Cybercrime officials have registered both cases and launched an investigation. Authorities warn that elderly people are increasingly becoming prime targets, as scammers exploit their limited tech knowledge and desire for better returns.

Experts urge families to stay alert and guide senior citizens against falling for such “too good to be true” investment traps.
