As the national debate over stray dogs intensifies, civic officials in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar are looking for a dog that has attacked at least 14 people, according to a report in NDTV.
The latest attack was reported on Sunday evening in CIDCO township, where an elderly man was mauled by the dog in a narrow alley.

CCTV footage of the chilling incident has surfaced on social media. The disturbing shows the man walking alone when the dog approaches from the opposite side and jumps at his face. Thereafter, the man falls, and the dog continues to bite him until locals intervene to rescue him. The victim, who sustained serious injuries to his face and hands, was hospitalized.
According to the report, residents claim the same dog has injured 14 people over the past few days, but efforts by the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar civic body to capture the canine has not yielded any results so far.
The chilling incident comes amid a wider national controversy triggered by a Supreme Court order directing civic bodies in Delhi-NCR to put all the strays in shelters. The move followed a rise in dog bite cases in the region.
The order sparked outrage from animal rights activists and dog lovers, while others welcomed it, citing safety concerns, particularly for children and the elderly. Questions remain about the practicality of the directive, with an estimated 10 lakh stray dogs in Delhi alone and insufficient infrastructure or funding to house them.
A new bench of the Supreme Court, currently reviewing the case, has criticized civic authorities for failing to implement animal birth control rules effectively. The court has reserved its judgment after hearing arguments from both sides.
