A 19-year-old NEET qualifier died by suicide in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur on Tuesday, hours before he was to travel to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh for his admission in an MBBS college.

The deceased was identified as Anurag Anil Borkar, a resident of Nawargaon in Sindewahi taluka. The police recovered a suicide note, which mentioned that Anurag ended his life because he did not want to study medicine.

According to the details, Anurag had recently cleared the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test by securing 1475th rank in the OBC category, and was set to begin his MBBS admission in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

He was found hanging from the ceiling of his house. His body was recovered by his family in the early hours of Tuesday.

The suicide note mentioned that Anurag wanted to get into business, rather than pursuing a career in medicine.

An investigation into the case was underway.

In a separate incident, five people have been arrested in connection with the death of an Anna University student, who jumped in front of a speeding train in Tiruchirappalli’s Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu.

The deceased, a third-year student from Virudhunagar district, was found dead on the railway track near Mandaiyur on the night of September 20 by the railway police, who later recovered a suicide note from his hostel room.

The student had, in the letter, alleged sexual assault, blackmail, and extortion by five men.

Following this, the police arrested the five suspects and a case was registered.
