Delhi Plans Rs 500 Cr Flyover To Ease Traffic Chaos At Kashmiri Gate ISBT
Delhi commuters, long plagued by bottlenecks near Kashmiri Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), may soon find some relief. The government is working on an ambitious plan to construct a new flyover linking Nigambodh Ghat (near Margat Wale Baba) with Majnu Ka Tilla. Officials say the move could transform the busy Rajghat–Majnu Ka Tilla corridor into a red-light-free stretch, cutting travel times considerably.
Traffic at ISBT is notoriously chaotic, with vehicles converging from five different directions. “The idea is to streamline traffic flow and reduce congestion at ISBT. The proposed flyover would pass above the existing ISBT structure, cross the Metcalfe Road red light, and descend near Majnu Ka Tilla,” a Public Works Department (PWD) official explained, as quoted by NDTV.

The project is still in its early stages, with the PWD tasked to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Sources estimate that construction could cost around ₹500 crore and take about two years once work begins. Meanwhile, tenders for an earlier flyover proposal have been put on hold to prioritise this plan.
The stretch around ISBT handles thousands of vehicles daily, leaving commuters trapped in long traffic snarls, particularly during monsoon months when road conditions worsen. If approved, the flyover could drastically reduce delays, offering smoother journeys between central and north Delhi.
