As India advances towards the goal of a ‘Naxal-mukth Bharat’, Chhattisgarh is set to host the All India Directors General of Police (DGP) and Inspectors General of Police (IGP) Conference for the first time.

The three-day event is scheduled from 28 to 30 November at the newly developed Marine Drive complex in Nava Raipur. Senior police officers from across the country are expected to participate in what is considered one of the most prestigious gatherings on internal security.

PM Modi to attend

The 60th edition of the conference will be inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to attend the valedictory session, underlining the national significance of the event. The Prime Minister’s presence would mark his second visit to Chhattisgarh within two months. He is scheduled to be in Raipur on 31 October for State Foundation Day celebrations and is expected to return at the end of November for the conference’s closing address.

Focus on Naxal eradication

This year’s discussions will place particular emphasis on the fight against Left Wing Extremism. Chhattisgarh, especially the Bastar region, has long been a stronghold of Naxal activity. However, joint operations conducted recently by state police and central security forces have recorded major successes, with several Naxal leaders neutralised and a decline in violent incidents. The conference will examine these achievements and explore new strategies to consolidate gains, strengthen local intelligence, and improve coordination between central and state agencies.

Broader security agenda

Beyond the Naxal challenge, the agenda also covers other pressing issues of national security. These include anti-terror measures, counter-narcotics operations, cyber security threats, and border management. Officials say the deliberations are expected to generate practical policy inputs for the central government as well as state police forces.

Hosting the DGP-IGP Conference in Chhattisgarh reflects the state’s growing importance in India’s internal security landscape.
