According to the officials, such findings indicate that terror groups are now preparing to spend longer periods in forests, away from civilian habitations, to avoid detection.

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have achieved major successes in their continuing operations against terrorism, with multiple terror hideouts dismantled in south Kashmir in recent days. The recoveries in these hideouts show a shifting trend in terrorist tactics, with underground bunkers coming up in forests and mountains rather than in local residential areas, an official told News18.

In one of the recent operations after killing two terrorists, a hideout was destroyed in the Guddar area of Kulgam following an encounter. Located in a forested and mountainous belt, the shelter was used as a hideout by terrorists before it was detected and demolished by the security forces.

Shortly after, another underground hideout was unearthed and destroyed in the Churat Qazigund area of the same district, further tightening the pressure on terror groups operating in the area.

Security officials say the hideouts were carefully constructed to sustain terrorists in remote locations. The recoveries included food supplies, rations, gas stoves, cooking utensils, as well as weapons and ammunition.

According to the officials, such findings indicate that terror groups are now preparing to spend longer periods in forests, away from civilian habitations, to avoid detection.

The continuing operations also suggest diminishing local support for terrorists in the Valley. With reduced shelter opportunities in villages and towns, terrorists are believed to be resorting to thick forests and rugged terrains, particularly in districts lying close to the Pir Panjal range.

This trend, officers say, points to a recalibration of terror strategy under sustained counter-terror pressure.

Security forces remain on heightened vigil across Kashmir. Joint teams of the Army, police, and paramilitary units have so far destroyed several such shelters and are stepping up coordinated operations aimed at dismantling the remaining terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
