Swedish luxury automaker Volvo Cars on Monday reported a 31 per cent reduction in CO₂ emissions per vehicle compared to its 2018 baseline, according to its 2025 sustainability report.

The company said the drop in emissions is largely due to a rise in electrified vehicle sales, including plug-in hybrids, which now account for 46 per cent of its global sales. This transition has led to a 42 per cent reduction in tailpipe emissions.

Volvo also reported progress in reducing the environmental impact of its manufacturing, with seven of its nine production plants now operating on climate-neutral energy, covering 87 per cent of its total energy use. Water consumption per vehicle has also decreased by 29 per cent.

“Sustainability remains central to Volvo Cars vision globally, and in India we are committed to supporting these ambitions through initiatives such as the Reverse Project and G.R.E.E.N Dealerships,” said Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India.

In India, the company has undertaken afforestation efforts, including tree plantation projects in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, aimed at carbon sequestration and ecological restoration.
