VinFast has launched an exchange programme in India allowing owners of petrol and diesel vehicles to trade them in for its electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, as the carmaker expands its presence in the country’s growing electric vehicle market.

The scheme offers exchange bonuses and financing options through partner banks, with the aim of lowering the upfront cost of switching to an electric vehicle.

Exchange incentives and product details

Under the programme, customers can trade in their existing internal combustion engine vehicles and receive financial support towards the purchase of a new electric SUV. The company said the structured payment plans are designed to narrow the initial price gap between petrol and electric models. The VF 6 is equipped with a 59.6 kWh battery and offers a claimed range of up to 468 kilometres under MIDC testing conditions. It supports DC fast charging from 10 per cent to 70 per cent in around 25 minutes. The VF 7 is available in higher output variants and carries similar safety features. Both models have received five-star ratings under Bharat NCAP.

Referring to similar exchange events conducted by the company in other markets, a sales manager said, “Some people arrived curious. They left with a brand new EV after a test drive and a closer look at the numbers. Once they saw the monthly cost difference, the charging convenience and our aftersales commitments, the decision felt like a natural next step.”

Charging network and aftersales plans

VinFast said it has signed agreements with dealer groups across several cities and partnered with service providers to develop EV-specific workshops. It is also working with charging partner V-Green and fuel retailers to install fast chargers at existing fuel stations. The company is offering warranties of up to 10 years, along with complimentary charging periods and maintenance packages for the initial years of ownership.

A VF 7 owner in Tamil Nadu said: “I went with VinFast because I felt I was not being asked to take a leap of faith just to go green. The ecosystem was already there.”

The company has established local assembly operations in Tamil Nadu and begun offering the VF 6 and VF 7 to Indian customers.
