Tata Motors Sierra secures 5-star BNCAP safety rating

New Delhi: Tata Motors new SUV Sierra has delivered a strong safety performance in its latest crash assessment, scoring 31.14 out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 44.73 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), according to the official test fact sheet. The model has secured a five-star rating in both adult and child occupant protection.

In child safety performance, the SUV recorded a dynamic score of 23.73 out of 24, reflecting high levels of protection for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child occupants in crash simulations. It also secured full marks in child restraint system (CRS) installation.

The model was evaluated in its ACCOMP+ and ADV+ variants and demonstrated robust structural and occupant protection performance across key crash scenarios. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the SUV scored 15.14 out of 16, while it achieved a full 16 out of 16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. This rating is applied across its variants.

The Sierra comes equipped with a comprehensive safety package as standard, including electronic stability control (ESC), front airbags, side head curtain airbags, side chest and pelvis airbags, along with seat belt reminders. The vehicle also offers ISOFIX anchorages for child seats in the rear outboard positions.

With a tested weight of 1,825 kg and a two-row body configuration, the Sierra’s rating applies to multiple petrol and diesel variants assessed in February 2026. Key safety assist technologies, including ESC and pedestrian protection systems, are standard across all variants.

Earlier Indian automakers’ Tata Harrier and Tata Safari have also secured all five stars in BNCAP Ratings.
