Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles on Friday launched the new Punch.ev, priced from ₹9.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), as it sharpens its focus on driving mainstream electric vehicle adoption in the entry-level segment.

The electric compact SUV is positioned to narrow the price gap with internal combustion engine (ICE) models in the small car category, while addressing key barriers to EV adoption such as range anxiety, charging time and battery life concerns.

The new Punch.ev is offered in three personas — Smart, Adventure and Empowered — and comes with two battery pack options: a 40 kWh unit and a 30 kWh variant.

Range and charging
The 40 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed real-world C75 range of around 355 km, with an ARAI-certified (P1+P2) range of 468 km. The company said the higher usable range is intended to make the vehicle suitable not just for daily city commutes but also for short intercity travel.

The vehicle supports fast charging, enabling a 20 per cent to 80 per cent charge in 26 minutes under test conditions. Tata Motors said a 15-minute fast charge can add up to 135 km of real-world range.

Lifetime battery warranty
In a bid to address long-term ownership concerns, the automaker is offering a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty on the 40 kWh variant for the first owner, defined as 15 years from the date of registration.

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said the model aims to make EV ownership “accessible, practical and worry free” for households considering their first electric car.

“With a real-world range of around 355 km, fast charging capability, a lifetime HV battery warranty and an accessible price point, the new Punch.ev addresses core concerns that have so far held customers back from choosing an entry-level EV as their primary car,” he said.

Battery-as-a-Service option
The company is also introducing a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) financing model, under which the Punch.ev can be purchased at a starting price of ₹6.49 lakh, with a battery usage charge of ₹2.6 per km.

The scheme is structured as a dual-loan product and will be available to personal buyers, subject to the financier’s approval.

Charging network expansion
Tata Motors said its aggregated charging ecosystem now covers over 2.3 lakh charging points across 1,500 cities, including home, community and public chargers. The company has tied up with over 30 charge point operators, aggregating more than 30,000 public chargers.

It also operates over 450 charging points across 130 mega charging hubs on 80 highways, with plans to expand this to 800 charging points by FY26.

The Punch.ev is built on the company’s acti.ev architecture and forms part of its broader strategy to scale electric mobility across segments as competition intensifies in the compact EV space.
