Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle (TMPV) on Tuesday said it has introduced an automated manual transmission (AMT) option in the Altroz iCNG, making it the first premium hatchback in India to offer an automatic transmission with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain.

According to the official press release, the Altroz iCNG AMT is priced between ₹8.69 lakh and ₹10.76 lakh and will be offered in five variants — Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative S and Accomplished S.

“The Altroz has consistently set benchmarks in the premium hatchback segment through its strong focus on design, safety and powertrain choice…With the introduction of AMT in the iCNG line-up, we are addressing a clear and growing customer need for greater convenience in CNG vehicles,” said Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

Powertrain and performance

The Altroz iCNG AMT is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron CNG engine producing 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of torque in CNG mode. The addition of AMT is aimed at improving driving convenience, particularly in city traffic conditions.

The model uses Tata Motors’ dual-cylinder iCNG technology, where the CNG cylinders are placed beneath the luggage compartment floor, allowing the hatchback to retain 210 litres of boot space in CNG mode. Petrol and diesel variants offer 345 litres of boot space.

The vehicle also features a single ECU setup for automatic switching between petrol and CNG modes, along with direct start capability in CNG mode.

Variant-wise prices (ex-showroom Delhi)

Variant Price
Pure ₹8.69 lakh
Pure S ₹8.99 lakh
Creative ₹9.56 lakh
Creative S ₹9.81 lakh
Accomplished S ₹10.76 lakh

Features and cabin updates

The Altroz iCNG AMT carries forward the updated design language of the latest Altroz, including flush-fitting door handles, connected LED tail lamps, LED headlamps with daytime running lights, and a revised dashboard layout. Inside the cabin, the hatchback gets twin 26.03 cm digital displays for infotainment and instrumentation, rear lounge-style seats, ambient lighting, and a soft-touch dashboard. The infotainment system is sourced from HARMAN.

Safety equipment

The hatchback continues to be based on Tata Motors’ ALFA architecture and carries a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.

Standard safety features include six airbags, an electronic stability programme, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors. Higher variants also get a 360-degree surround-view camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, and LED fog lamps.
