Tata Motors’ move to bring back Sierra is doing the trick for the carmaker, with the iconic model, along with the Curvv, accounting for over 14 per cent of its total sales in the fourth quarter (January-March) of FY26.

According to SIAM data released on Monday, these two models nearly tripled Tata Motors’ mid-size SUV segment volumes to 28,129 units in Q4 FY26, compared to 10,355 units in the same period last fiscal year.

“The Tata Sierra is an interesting offering by the brand – one segment higher in dimensions and feature package while a segment lower in price point. This makes it an extremely attractive proposition for the young Indian buyer,” auto design expert Avik Chattopadhyay told ETAuto.

As ETAuto earlier reported, the Mumbai-headquartered firm is ramping up production for the Sierra, as it has crossed the one-lakh booking mark. The acceleration aligns with minimising the waiting periods for customers.

The company has delivered 14,000 units of the model–which was discontinued in 2003 and revived last year– by March this year.

“Even if it has no connection with the previous edition, this one itself is a standalone winner of sorts. Just the way the styling was the high point three decades ago, so is it now, right from the silhouette to those headlamps, which I simply adore,” he added.

Tata Motors has also reported strong sub-compat SUV sales for its Nexon and Punch with 27 per cent YoY growth with 1,21,587 units as against 95,614 units in Q4 FY25, according to data.

In the SUV category, Harrier and Safari sales stood at 15,188 units during the quarter. Tata Motors’ hatchback portfolio comprising Tiago, Tigor and Altroz recorded sales of 33,839 units in Q4 FY26.

In FY26, Tata Motors grabbed the third position in the passenger vehicle segment, with 13.04 per cent market share, while its close rival Mahindra & Mahindra moved up the ladder to clinch the second spot in the pecking order with 13.42 per cent market share, supported by its SUV portfolio including Thar, Bolero, XUV700 and Scorpio-N.
