Mahindra & Mahindra is scouting for land to set up a greenfield manufacturing facility as it looks to ramp up capacity to cater to both domestic and export demand, PTI reports.

The move comes alongside the launch of its new modular, multi-energy NU IQ platform, which will underpin a fresh range of SUVs, with the first model scheduled for rollout in 2027. The platform has been designed to address white spaces in both Indian and global markets, supplementing the company’s existing product pipeline.

Mahindra Auto Division CEO Nalinikanth Gollagunta said the automaker plans to increase output at its Chakan plant by 2.4 lakh units but will still require additional capacity. “We are in the process of finding sites where we can put out a greenfield additional capacity,” he told PTI, while noting that land acquisition could impact timelines.

The automaker has submitted a letter of interest to the Maharashtra government to acquire 350 acres in Igatpuri, where it already operates facilities, as it targets an EV production capacity of 10 lakh units by 2027.

Alongside capacity expansion, Mahindra is placing equal emphasis on strengthening its service network. The company plans to add 150–200 outlets annually, up from its current 1,100, with a focus on both urban and rural centres. “If you can provide the right kind of service network, the customer experience could be better than what it is right now,” Gollagunta said.

Mahindra, which has grown its SUV market share from 11 per cent to 27 per cent, expects 15–20 per cent volume growth in FY26. A good monsoon and the festive season are also expected to support demand, particularly in rural markets, the executive added.
