New Delhi: Jaguar Land Rover’s Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern is set to step down from his role at the end of March 2026, concluding a career spanning more than 20 years with the company, according to NDTV.

McGovern, who joined Land Rover in 2004, rose through the ranks to become one of the most influential design leaders in the global automotive industry. During his tenure, he was instrumental in shaping the visual identity of key models across the Range Rover, Defender and Discovery portfolios.

Among his early contributions was the LRX concept, which later evolved into the Range Rover Evoque—a model widely credited with redefining the compact luxury SUV segment. He also oversaw the design direction of flagship vehicles such as the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery.

McGovern played a key role in the development of newer models including the Range Rover Velar and the modern Land Rover Defender, which received global recognition for blending heritage design with contemporary styling.

His design philosophy, centred on clean lines and restrained surfaces, helped elevate Jaguar Land Rover’s brands into the premium and luxury segments globally.

Next chapter

Following his departure, McGovern is expected to establish his own creative consultancy, although details around the venture remain undisclosed. Industry observers expect him to take on independent design and brand strategy projects, leveraging his extensive experience.

His exit comes at a time when Jaguar Land Rover is advancing its long-term transformation strategy, including a transition towards electrification and a sharper focus on luxury positioning. McGovern has been closely associated with these plans, contributing to the company’s vision around sustainable mobility and net-zero ambitions.
