Analysts expect the GST rationalisation, coinciding with the festive season, to lift demand in India’s premium car market, which has been grappling with high duties and slowing sales.

BMW India has announced significant price reductions across its sedan and SUV range, passing on the benefits of GST 2.0 to customers. The cuts make some of its most popular models cheaper by as much as ₹8.9 lakh.

Among sedans, the 2 Series Gran Coupé is now priced at ₹45.3 lakh, down from ₹46.9 lakh, while the 3 Series long wheelbase has dropped to ₹60.5 lakh from ₹63.9 lakh. The 5 Series long wheelbase is now available at ₹72.4 lakh, compared with ₹76.5 lakh earlier.

BMW’s SUVs have also become more accessible. The X1 is now ₹50.6 lakh against ₹52.4 lakh before the GST change. The X5 has seen a sharper drop to ₹93.7 lakh from ₹1.003 crore, while the flagship X7 now costs ₹1.2 crore, down from ₹1.3 crore.

The move aligns with Mercedes-Benz India slashing prices of its E-Class sedan by up to ₹6 lakh, signalling a broader trend among luxury carmakers to adjust prices in line with the government’s new tax regime.

Analysts expect the GST rationalisation, coinciding with the festive season, to lift demand in India’s premium car market, which has been grappling with high duties and slowing sales.
