Made a mistake trusting her: Mother of Karoline Leavitt's nephew breaks silence on ICE arrest; 'We are not BFFs but...'

Brazilian immigrant Bruna Ferreira has now broken her silence over her ICE arrest and said the only mistake she did was to trust White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, making her the godmother of her child she shares with Leavitt’s brother Michael Leavitt. Michael and Ferreira stayed together in New Hampshire. They never married and in 2015, they broke up. On November 12, Ferreira was arrested by ICE when she was on her way to pick up her son, as she and Michael have shared custody of the child. Ferreira has been accused of overstaying a B-2 tourist visa that expired in 1999. But her lawyers said that she got temporary protection under DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, in 2012 during the Obama administration. The Trump administration also alleged criminal record but her lawyers said she was summoned to a juvenile court in 2008 after she had a fight with another girl over $8 outside Dunkin’ Donuts. Ferreira was never arrested and the case was dismissed but they said the White House is painting her as a criminal — because of her close association with the Leavitt family. Karoline Leavitt did not comment on Ferreira but the White House claimed that Ferreira was an absent mother; she never resided with the child or Karoline’s brother.

‘Obviously, we are not BFFs’

Ferreira told the Washington Post that she was not best friends with Karoline Leavitt but she always admired Leavitt’s drive and success. “Obviously we’re not BFFs and we’re not FaceTiming,” she said but refuted the White House narrative that they have not spoken for years. Ferreira said she could not recall when they last spoke, but said she met Karoline Leavitt’s now-husband and is constantly in the family’s orbit because of their son.
