Samajwadi Party Member of Parliament Rajeev Rai has strongly criticised the state and central governments over their recent statements regarding the identification of alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators and the construction of detention centres. Reacting to the Chief Minister’s announcement that detention centres would be built during the ongoing SIR process, Rai questioned the credibility and accountability of the “double engine” government. He stated that the same political dispensation has been in power at the Centre for nearly 12 years and in the state for over 8 years, yet has failed to provide clear data on the number of infiltrators. Rai argued that if the government has been unable to identify how many people illegally entered the country and why they have not been deported so far, then it has no moral right to continue in power. He said that instead of making new announcements, the government should answer basic questions about its past performance. His remarks have intensified the political debate over national security, migration, and the proposed detention centre policy, with opposition parties demanding transparency and concrete action rather than political statements.
