‘Dhurandhar’ becomes the LONGEST Hindi film in 17 years since ‘Jodha Akbar’

Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar' becomes the LONGEST Hindi film in 17 years since 'Jodha Akbar', with a runtime of 214 minutes, joins the list of movies like 'LOC Kargil', 'Lagaan'

Ranveer Singh starrer ‘Dhurandhar’ is now set to release in theatres this Friday, December 5. The film directed by Aditya Dhar has been in the news lately as Major Mohit Sharma’s brother, Madhur Sharma had raised objections regarding it. As the matter came to the Delhi High Court, the judiciary asked the censor board to review the film as per the concerns of Madhur Sharma. However, the CBFC has cleared the film with an ‘A’ certificate and some cuts. After the cuts and replacements, the length of ‘Dhurandhar’ is around 214 minutes which is (3 hours 34 minutes). It is the longest Hindi movie in 17 years as it joins the list of Ashutosh Gowarikar’s ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ which had released in 2008. Recently, one saw the release of ‘Baahubali: The Epic’ which was 225 mins (3 hr 45 min) but this one was a re-release and it saw both the parts of ‘Baahubali’ joined together. But ever since the release of ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, one hasn’t seen such a lengthy movie. Before ‘Jodha Akbar’, we had films like ‘Mera Naam Joker’ (248 mins (4 hr 8 min) and LOC: Kargil (255 mins that is 4 hr 15 min), ‘Lagaan’ (233 mins that is 3 hr 53 min) which were really long. This is also the first time that Ranveer Singh has got an ‘A’ certificate for his movie in his career so far. Meanwhile, the CBFC stated, “Several modifications and excisions (cuts and replacements) were carried out by the applicant (producer) to comply with the law in force and the CBFC’s requirements.” To align with guidelines, the makers replaced some opening visuals that were considered excessively violent and removed a few intense moments in the second half for the same reason. Moreover, a character’s name was altered, a cuss word muted and anti-drug disclaimers inserted in scenes showing substance use. After a detailed review, the CBFC upheld its decision, certifying ‘Dhurandhar’ as “a work of fiction” and confirming that it had “no direct or indirect resemblance” to Major Sharma’s life. The board also concluded that the film did not require further clearance from the Army, clearing the final hurdle before its scheduled release on December 5. ‘Dhurandhar’ also stars Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun apart from Ranveer.
