‘Vilayath Buddha’ BO: Film drop to just Rs 10 lakhs

'Vilayath Buddha' box office collections day 9: Prithviraj Sukumaran's film falls further; drop to just Rs 10 lakhs

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ‘Vilayath Buddha’ is struggling at the box office, with collections plummeting to just Rs 10 lakhs on its ninth day. Despite a disappointing commercial run, the film has garnered praise for its performances, particularly from Prithviraj himself and Shammi Thilakan. Hopes remain for a second-weekend recovery driven by positive word-of-mouth.

Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest action drama ‘Vilayath Buddha’ is facing a tough battle at the box office. After a disappointing first week, the film continues to decline sharply, with Day 9 registering a collection of only Rs 10 lakhs as reported by the Sacnilk website. The movie has not been able to draw audiences in the way expected. Current worldwide earnings sit at Rs 8.23 crore, with an India net of Rs 4.81 crore and overseas collections of Rs 2.6 crore.

Steep drop throughout the week

From Rs 35 lakhs on Day 5, the numbers fell to Rs 25 lakhs on Day 6, Rs 20 lakhs on Day 7 and Rs 11 lakhs on Day 8. The film dropped to Rs 10 lakhs on day 9.

Our verdict

Despite the disappointing commercial outcome, the film has earned praise for certain performances. Our ETimes review states, “It is good to see Prithviraj playing a raw character. The man has charm and he makes the anti-hero appealing enough to make us root for him, but he falters a bit in the emotional scenes.” The review further highlights Shammi Thilakan’s impactful role, noting, “Shammi is super as the Bhaskaran Master, making us laugh at him, sympathise with him and feel exasperated with his stubbornness.” Anu Mohan and Priyamvada Krishnan have also been acknowledged for their screen presence, with the latter praised for making a lasting impression.

All eyes on the film’s second-weekend turnaround

There is hope that ‘Vilayath Buddha’ may gain some recovery through its second weekend if word of mouth picks up.The movie stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anu Mohan, Shammi Thilakan, Rajashree and Priyamvada Krishnan in pivotal roles.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
