Prithviraj Sukumaran’s highly anticipated film ‘Vilayath Buddha’ has seen another setback at the box office, with the seventh-day collections dropping further to an estimated Rs 20 lakhs. The film, which opened to mixed word-of-mouth and polarised online reactions, has now accumulated approximately Rs 4.60 crore India net in its first week, as reported by the Sacnilk website. On Thursday, November 27, 2025, the film recorded an overall Malayalam occupancy of just 10.14%. Cyberattacks stir heated debate on social media

While ticket sales remain underwhelming, discussions surrounding Vilayath Buddha are only intensifying online. The film has become a focal point of heated exchanges across social media platforms. There were targeted cyberattacks directed at both the project and its cast.

Mallika Sukumaran’s powerful reaction

The controversy took a personal turn when Prithviraj’s mother and senior actress Mallika Sukumaran reacted strongly to the cyber hate through a Facebook post. Without holding back, she criticised those who attack anonymously for profit while projecting self-righteousness online. She also expressed admiration for those who publicly supported Shammi Thilakan amid the growing negativity. Her Facebook post read, “Among the so-called heroic warriors who make money without even flinching , who lock their profiles after putting money in their pockets and displaying photos of Krishna, some woman, or an innocent child, I feel respect towards those personalities who reacted in support of Shammy.”Directed by Jayan Nambiar, Vilayath Buddha features a strong cast including Shammi Thilakan, Priyamvada Krishnan, Rajashree, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Anu Mohan.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
