J&K Police raid JeI-linked locations across Kashmir Valley

J&K Police raid JeI-linked locations across Kashmir Valley

SRINAGAR: J&K Police on Thursday conducted a series of raids across Kashmir Valley at multiple locations allegedly linked to Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. According to a police statement, the searches were carried out “in the backdrop of the recent surge in terrorist activities and to curb the tendency of radicalisation among youth”.While raiding several locations in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, the search teams inspected multiple premises associated with JeI-linked suspects, police stated, while adding that “no incriminating material was seized from any of the locations”. “These searches are part of J&K police’s continuous efforts to dismantle radical networks, prevent anti-national activities, and strengthen peace and stability in the district,” the police statement said.Kulgam district, also in south Kashmir, saw “meticulously coordinated searches at multiple locations” that yielded “a significant quantity of electronic gadgets, literature and documents suspected to have relevance to ongoing investigations,” police stated. “All recovered materials have been seized on the spot and taken into custody for detailed scrutiny,” the statement added. In central Kashmir’s Budgam district, several residences and institutes allegedly linked to JeI were raided “based on credible intelligence that some JeI members are engaged in anti-national activities”, the police statement said.Raids were also carried out in Anantnag and Shopian districts, police said.In north Kashmir’s Handwara area, search parties raided Jamia Islamia Institute at Waripora, acting on “information regarding suspected unlawful activities and possible links with JeI”, police said. “Electronic devices recovered during the operation have been seized and are being thoroughly examined to ascertain their usage and to verify any suspected affiliations,” the statement said.
