NEW DELHI: A video showing an environmentalist confronting a man dumping plastic waste into the ocean has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage. The clip, posted by environmentalist Lisbon Ferrao on Monday, shows the man throwing plastic bags into the sea. When Ferrao asked him who would clean the mess, the man allegedly pointed back at him. In his social media post, Ferrao wrote: “I confronted a #man after seeing him throw #PlasticBags into the #Ocean. This behaviour is becoming uncontrollable! When I asked if it was necessary to dump rubbish like that—and who he expected to CleanIt—he simply pointed at me. This is how some people react when they’re caught. But would they behave like this Abroad? Throwing garbage and being proud of it is a new low for our Country and its Citizens. If we want a cleaner India, it has to start with cleaner mind toward our country.”The video has garnered over 2 million views so far, with netizens reacting strongly to the incident. One user wrote, “The audacity to point at you. That shows how far we are from actually being Viksit Bharat.” Another added, “Those people don’t love their country; if they loved it, they would do everything possible to take care of it and keep it beautiful.”The exact location of the incident could not be independently verified, but the clip has reignited debates on environmental responsibility and civic behaviour in India.
