NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday slammed Pakistan for its comments on the flag-hoisting event in Ayodhya, saying that instead of delivering hypocritical homilies, Pakistan would do better to turn its gaze inwards and focus on its own abysmal human rights record.Pakistan had earlier expressed deep concern over the event and called it a “deliberate attempt to erode Muslim cultural and religious heritage under the influence of majoritarian Hindutva ideology”.”We have seen the reported remarks and reject them with the contempt they deserve,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. “As a country with a deeply stained record of bigotry, repression, and systemic mistreatment of its minorities, Pakistan has no moral standing to lecture others,” he added.PM Narendra Modi hoisted the flag on Tuesday saying that the “wounds and pain” of centuries were healing as a 500-year-old resolve was finally being fulfilled with the formal completion of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. In an official statement, Pakistan had also sought international intervention to safeguard Islamic heritage.
