‘Masti 4’ which is the fourth installment of the ‘Masti’ franchise, which originally started in the year 2004 was expected to do well at the box office considering its a known franchise. Moroever, we haven’t seen adult comedy as a genre being explored much in India. Thus, the film was expected to do better in mass centres however, it did not get great reviews even as far as its entertainment quotient was concerned. Though, some even liked it. ‘Masti 4’ released in cinemas with Farhan Akhtar’s ‘120 Bahadur’ which is having an edge, eventhough this one is more of a niche movie, expected to cater to a multiplex crowd. ‘Masti 4’ has clearly underperformed when compared to its predecessors – ‘Masti’ , ‘Grand Masti’ and ‘Great Grand Masti’. Masti 4′ opened at Rs 2.75 crore on Friday and repeated the same number on Saturday. Sunday (Day 3) brought a mild uptick to Rs 3 crore, but Monday (Day 4) saw a further decline with collections slipping to Rs 1.50 crore. On Tuesday, the film made Rs 1.6 crore and on Wednesday which was day 6, it minted Rs 1.15 crore. The total collection of ‘Masti 4’ now is Rs 12.85 crore, while the total collection of ‘120 Bahadur’ is Rs 14 crore net in India so far in the span of six days. ‘De De Pyaar De 2’ is getting similar per day numbers even though it is in its second week at the moment. Clearly, the performance of ‘Masti 4’ is below average and now this Friday, ‘Tere Ishq Mein’ starring Dhanush and Kriti Sanon is releasing in theatres which is expected to do well. Thus, it will give competition to all these three movies.
