Yo Yo Honey Singh is gearing up for his upcoming world tour My Story, and while the excitement is high, he admits he’s also in a deeply reflective phase. In a recent conversation, the rapper opened up about his childhood inspirations and the surreal relationship he now shares with Shah Rukh Khan — someone he once dreamed of becoming. Honey Singh said he was drawn to performance and music since school, doing kirtan, bhangra and even teaching bhangra. One memory still stays with him: a teacher once told his mother, “He wants to become Shah Rukh Khan, make him study first, then he can become like him.” Today, he smiles at how life fulfilled that dream in its own unexpected way.
The Diwali party where everything changed
Speaking to NDTV, Honey Singh recalled his first major collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan — the blockbuster Lungi Dance from Chennai Express. But what happened afterward, he says, became the most emotional moment of his career.SRK invited him to his Diwali party, and Singh initially hesitated, fearing he would feel out of place among the industry’s biggest stars. But what followed stunned him. “You won’t believe it — he held my hand for seven hours throughout the whole party,” he said. From Amitabh Bachchan to Aishwarya Rai, from Madhuri Dixit to other industry legends, Shah Rukh introduced him to everyone with pride, saying, “This is the boy.”
A connection built on respect, warmth and manifestation
Honey Singh said his bond with Shah Rukh started with their shared Delhi roots but grew deeper through mutual warmth and respect. He toured the world with SRK in 2013–2014 and now sees their relationship as proof of the power of belief.“I have a relationship with him, he has his hand on my head. Somewhere, the manifestation keeps happening without you realising how far you’ve come,” he reflected.Meanwhile, SRK and Honey Singh’s collaboration on Lungi Dance continues to remain iconic.
