Here’s why ‘Stranger Things 5’ is releasing in three parts

‘Stranger Things 5’ OTT release: Here’s why Millie Bobby Brown starrer sci-fi series will drop in three parts

The countdown to ‘Stranger Things Season 5’ is closing. On November 27, ‘Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1’ will be released, followed by Volume 2 on December 25, and the finale on December 31. On the one hand, where the audiences are more than excited for Volume 1, at the same time, they can’t help but wonder why the series is dropping in three parts. According to co-creator Ross Duffer, the makers made the call to divide the final seasons into different parts early in production. He added that it was done to have a greater impact.

Why is ‘Stranger Things 5’ releasing in three parts?

While speaking to SFX Magazine, Duffer cited pandemic delays as the reason for previous splits, like season four’s. However, this time, things were different, far planned in advance. “In season four, we weren’t aware that it was going to get split in two,” he said before adding that it was not the OTT platform’s fault.

“But this time, we knew we were going to divide it into two, so it really is in two halves. Volume One really exists as its own mega-movie. It has its own climax,” he quoted.

The creator believes the split-release format gives more structure to the narrative. With this, every volume gets its own space and creates a greater impact. In Duffer’s words, Volume 1, which has four episodes in total, is “its own mega-movie.”He added that the final episode of Volume 1 was the most challenging one to make, as “that includes the finale, though on an emotional level, the finale was the hardest. I don’t know how many days I found myself crying, and I’m not someone who cries very often outside of watching Pixar movies.”

‘Stranger Things’

Released first in 2016, ‘Stranger Things’ became a global phenomenon in no time. Blame it on the magic that blended sci-fi genre with 1980s nostalgia, the gripping storyline, or impactful performances; the series became an instant hit. After the first season release in 2016, season 2 came in 2017, and the next chapter made OTT debut in 2019. ‘Stranger Things Season 4’ came out in 2022 in two parts, and now the final chapter of the sci-fi is releasing as curtains fall down on 2025.
