False name, fake DOB: How Indian national wanted for murder got caught at US-Canada border through biometrics

False name, fake DOB could not save: How Indian national wanted for murder got caught at US-Canada border through biometrics

Vishat Kumar, a criminal wanted in India for a murder case was caught at US-Canada border through biometrics.

Vishat Kumar, a 22-year-old Indian man wanted back in the country for a murder, was arrested when he tried to sneak into Canada through the Peace Bridge border crossing from Buffalo, New York. The border officials did not know he was a wanted man in India as he presented a completely new identity with a fake name and a fake date of birth. Vishat even passed the primary inspection but got caught on a secondary one through the use of biometrics. He was handed over to officers of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was taken to a federal facility in Batavia, where he is waiting to be removed to India. US officials flagged that India had already issued an Interpol red notice on Vishat after he fled India. The CBP office in Buffalo said Kumar had illegally entered the US last year and failed to attend an asylum interview. “The apprehension of this individual demonstrates the critical role our officers play in safeguarding our nation and working collaboratively with international partners to uphold justice,” Sharon Swiatek, acting area port director with the CBP, said in the release.“This arrest highlights our commitment to ensuring that those who attempt to evade accountability for serious crimes are identified and brought to justice. I commend our officers for their vigilance and dedication to the mission.”The details of the murder case for which he is wanted in India have not been revealed by the US and Canadian investigators. It is also not known whether he was in the US for the last year as he had no legality.
