The political confrontation in West Bengal has intensified as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp counterattack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The BJP alleged that Mamata Banerjee is increasingly fearful of losing power and is therefore focusing her sympathy and political energy on Bangladeshi immigrants rather than citizens of West Bengal. According to BJP leaders, Mamata Banerjee has been making personal attacks on their members and attempting to shift the narrative by highlighting selective concerns. The controversy escalated after Mamata Banerjee claimed on social media that since the unrest began in Bengal, 28 people have lost their lives—some due to fear and some due to uncertainty. BJP, however, countered this claim by stating that no deaths have been reported from other states experiencing similar tensions. The party further accused the state government of attempting to portray the situation as a humanitarian crisis involving Bangladeshis, while BJP maintains that they are working to prevent West Bengal from “turning into Bangladesh. ”Amid the heated exchanges, Mamata Banerjee also alleged that SRIR authorities were subjecting her to mental torture. The situation continues to evolve with both sides intensifying their attacks.
