'Terrible outcome for two families': Indian-origin woman, 8 months pregnant, killed by speeding BMW in Sydney, teen driver denied bail

33-year-old Samanvitha Dhareshwar, an Indian-origin woman living in Sydney, was killed in a car crash at Hornsby as she was walking with her husband and their three-year-old son. She was eight months pregnant and both the mother and the unborn child died following the crash. According to Australian media reports, a Kia car slowed down to let them walk when it was hit from behind by a speeding BMW being driven by 19-year-old Aaron Papazoglu. Both the Kia driver and the BMW driver were taken for mandatory testing and Papazoglu was arrested and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and causing the loss of a foetus.

No DUI but teenager denied bail

Papazoglu has no previous criminal or driving offences and was not under the influence of any kind of drugs. His lawyer said it was not an intentional act but a tragic outcome to a series of unfortunate events. His lawyer also cited that he has an excellent driving record and that he is a young man of good standing.Magistrate Ray Plibersek denied bail, considering the seriousness of the incident and said it’s a terrible outcome for two families. A prison sentence is likely if the teenager is convicted. Papazoglu’s matter will return to court on Tuesday for a mention, with a brief of evidence due by January 18.According to her LinkedIn, Dhareshwar was a qualified IT systems analyst, working for Alsco Uniforms.Daily Mail reported that the Indian family bought a plot of land in Grantham Farm, in Sydney’s north west, last year. Records show the couple submitted a building development application for a two-storey dwelling with Blacktown City Council just two months ago, on September 8, the report said.
