Muslim nurse in Texas says she won't treat anyone watching Fox News; university ensures she doesn't have to, fires her after probe

A Muslim nurse in Texas got fired after she made a video showing how she backs out of a patient’s room if Fox News is running.

A Muslim nurse working at the University of Texas Medical Branch made a video showing how she backs out of a patient’s room if she finds Fox News running in the room. Fox News is a Conservative news channel and the video was intended to be a sharp criticism of the current dispensation, but it immediately drew flak for ‘Nurse Ahlam’ as medical practitioners take an oath to treat all patients the same without any bias.As the university was made aware of the nurse’s video, UTMB announced a probe and suspended the nurse. “UTMB is aware of the social media posts and is conducting an investigation. This individual’s access to work at any UTMB facility has been suspended while the investigation is ongoing,” the health center said initially. “Following an investigation into the social media posts, UTMB terminated the contract employee yesterday evening,” UTMB announced. But this did not put an end to the debate as social media users said it is the responsibility of UTMB to ensure that this does not happen again. People called for stricter action against the particular nurse and said she should not be working in any health facility if she is so biased. “Thank you @utmbhealth advocating for patients safety and not being politically motivated! Now, I would like to know if you as a responsible health care body reported her actions to the nursing board of Texas? She needs to be disciplined for her egregious actions,” one wrote. “The fact that she treats people based on political views just says a lot about her as a person entirely she definitely not the person that I would want anyone be in care of hers alone she definitely would want to kill any patient because of their political views,” another wrote.”While I can appreciate the termination, it speaks volumes to a culture that should be investigated beyond this person. How do people like this get hired to begin with??” another wrote.”You need to look into your hiring process. hopefully this was a misalignment of values and not performative work,” a third user wrote.”Not good enough! You need to rebuild trust, fire all muslims and let patients know they will be taken care of no matter their political or religious beliefs! This is absolutely horrific. She needs to be jailed and deported!” another added calling for the termination of all Muslim staff.
