Jammu and Kashmir is on high alert as Director General of Police Nilend Prabat is set to address a press briefing on the recent sequence of events, including the massive blast that destroyed the Naugam Police Station on Friday night. The police station, located inside Sheikh-ul-Alam residential colony and operating for nearly 25 years out of a displaced Kashmiri Pandit’s vacant house, was completely reduced to rubble. Tension remains high as families of police personnel and residents continue to gather at the site. According to officials, the explosion occurred while the forensic team and J&K Police officers were examining samples of the explosive material seized earlier in Faridabad, suspected to be linked with a white-collar terror module. This is the second such blast at this location; eight years ago, an explosion in the malkhana killed three people. SDRF teams, civil defence units, and police personnel are currently combing through debris, collecting scattered body remains, explosive traces, and other evidence. Authorities are also assessing damage to nearby houses in the densely populated colony. Early indications point towards severe lapses in SOPs related to handling large quantities of explosives and detonators. Official confirmation is expected at the 10 AM briefing.
