Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati’s ‘Kaantha’ mints Rs 4 crore on its first day

Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati’s “Kaantha” has made a strong debut, earning Rs 4 crore on its opening day. The period drama, set in 1950s Madras, explores the conflict between a megastar and his mentor. Praised for its grand scale and performances, the film’s transparent plot is a minor drawback. With positive momentum, “Kaantha” is poised for a successful weekend.

Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati’s much-anticipated drama Kaantha has opened to a strong start at the box office, collecting Rs 4 crore on Day 1 as per Sacnilk, signaling a promising run ahead. The film, which also stars Bhagyashri Borse and Samuthirakani in a significant roles, drew solid footfall thanks to its intriguing premise, star power, and positive word-of-mouth emerging from reviews and early shows. The film is set in the movie business of the 1950s in Madras and talks about the tussle between a megastar and his mentor. Released across the country in multiple languages, the film has benefitted from strong script and superlative performances by the leading cast. ReviewETimes in its review praised the director of the film for creating an era and story of mega scale , “ Director Selvamani Selvaraj constructs what amounts to a Shakespearean tragedy, where ego, ambition, and betrayal play out against the backdrop of a troubled production.”. The review also praised Dulquer who is often considered the poster boy for period film, it said , “ You have to commend Dulquer’s variety in script selection and his commitment to making each choice count. He captures the old-school star mystique without overplaying it, delivering calculated looks and mannerisms that occasionally crack to reveal something underneath”. The review though points out a glaring issue with the film , it states , “ Where Kaantha stumbles is in its transparency. Red herrings get tossed around, but once the pieces align, the trajectory feels obvious.” Future Trade circle hopes that with a positive start Kaantha is expected to show growth on Saturday and Sunday and is positioned for a potentially impressive first-weekend total. Both Dulquer and Rana are coming from success with their last outing, Dulquer backed Lokah- Chapter 1 Chandra headlined by Kalyani Priyadarshan minted over Rs 300 crore at global box office . And Rana’s Baahubali- The Epic has now become the highest grossing re-release film in India.
