Kuwait now provides one of the world’s fastest entry visas, which can be issued in just five minutes. The move reflects the country’s broader efforts to modernise administrative procedures, strengthen security, and streamline residency and visitor processes. These reforms aim to benefit citizens, residents, and international visitors alike, while ensuring adherence to the nation’s laws and values

Expedited entry and visitor friendly measures

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, emphasised that Kuwait imposes no restrictions on any nationality wishing to visit. He highlighted the efficiency of the Kuwait E Visa system, which allows a visa to be issued in as little as five minutes.Sheikh Fahad stated that all foreign nationals are welcome, provided they respect the laws and values cherished in Kuwait. Procedures for both visit visas and residency permits have been simplified to facilitate travel and legal residence. The minister noted that Kuwait’s climate makes it an ideal destination between 15 October and 15 April, a period favourable for tourism and outdoor activities, setting it apart from other Gulf nations. He further clarified the roles of two digital platforms: Kuwait Visa, for entry permits, and Visit Kuwait, for obtaining authorisation to organise all types of events. Sheikh Fahad described the systems as complementary, explaining that together they form an integrated framework for visitor facilitation and administrative modernisation, reflecting the country’s commitment to digital transformation.

How to apply for a visa via the Kuwait Visa platform

Visitors seeking entry to Kuwait can easily apply through the Kuwait Visa platform. The process is fully digital and designed for speed and convenience:

  1. Visit the official Kuwait Visa website and create an account with personal details.
  2. Select the type of visa required—tourist, business, or transit.
  3. Upload the necessary documents, such as passport copy and photograph, following the site’s guidelines.
  4. Visa fees are nominal, with tourist, business, and family visit visas typically costing 3 Kuwaiti Dinars, and transit visas at 2 Kuwaiti Dinars. Overstay penalties apply at 10 Kuwaiti Dinars per day. Note: fees may vary for different nationalities.
  5. Additional services include guidance for residency permit applications and links to the Visit Kuwait platform for event permits, ensuring all visitor requirements are streamlined in one digital ecosystem.

This simple, rapid procedure underscores Kuwait’s emphasis on efficiency and welcoming international travellers.

Legislative reforms and security initiatives

Kuwait is undergoing continuous legislative development aimed at improving service delivery and security systems across all sectors of the Interior Ministry. Sheikh Fahad assured that citizens, residents, and visitors would soon experience tangible benefits, adding, “the best is yet to come.”A key reform is the new anti-drugs law, signed by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The legislation introduces harsher penalties for offenders and expands the scope of the death penalty. Publication in the official gazette, Kuwait Al-Youm, will make the law effective in the near future.Sheikh Fahad observed that GCC-wide cooperation has significantly curtailed drug trafficking, with the integrated efforts of interior ministries preventing major smuggling attempts. Kuwait’s advanced radar systems covering land and maritime borders have also played a critical role in intercepting narcotics. In addition, he confirmed the impending introduction of an alternative penalties system for traffic offences, informed by GCC experiences and tailored to local legislation.

GCC cooperation and regional security

Highlighting regional collaboration, Sheikh Fahad noted that GCC interior ministries maintain high-level coordination and information exchange, ensuring security and stability across member states. He praised the consistent support of the Amir for Kuwait’s security agencies, reinforcing operational effectiveness. The First Deputy Prime Minister indicated that upcoming meetings with GCC interior ministry undersecretaries will address specific agendas, including Kuwait’s legislative priorities and security developments. Outcomes will be announced following the conclusion of discussions. Go to Source
