'Anna' actress Sally Kirkland under hospice care, amid battling dementia

Sally Kirkland, the ‘Anna’ actress, is under hospice care at the hospital in Palm Springs, California, after being diagnosed with dementia last year. The 84-year-old star has been battling serious, life-threatening infections.

The Golden Globe winner’s long-time friend and former student, Cody Galloway, is by her side as she is under professional medical treatment. Recently, she even faced injuries to her ribs and foot, along with cuts and bruises, after she was left unattended in a shower and had a fall, as per TMZ.

Sally Kirkland’s achievements

While the actress has been facing health issues, the active spirit and love for acting have never faded. After cruising through films and soap operas, and earning an Academy Award nomination and a Golden Globe for the 1987 film ‘Anna,’ she recently worked in the semi-biographical story ‘Sallywood,’ where a writer is obsessed with meeting her. Off the screen, Kirkland has been an active member of New York’s avant-garde theater since the 1960s.

About Sally Kirkland

Due to the health crisis, Kirkland’s friends even set up a GoFundMe page meant to raise funds for urgent medical needs. “This past year, Sally fractured four bones in her neck, her right wrist, and her left hip. While recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections. The combination of these injuries and infections has required extensive hospitalizations and rehab beyond the 100 days insurance will cover,” her page said. Born on October 31, 1941, Sally Kirkland has a career spanning over 60 years with more than 250 films. She is best known for her roles in ‘Coming Apart,’ ‘Big Stan,’ ‘The Haunted,’ ‘Revenge,’ ‘The Sting,’ ‘Cuck,’ ‘Big Bad Mama,’ ‘High Stakes,’ Eve of the Stranger,’ ‘Bruce Almighty,’ ‘Double Jeopardy,’ ‘Blue,’ ‘Bite the Bullet,’ ‘Gunman,’ and many more.
