Who is Celina Jaitly’s brother, Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly? Bollywood actress seeks government help after UAE detention

Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly, brother of actress Celina Jaitly, has been detained in the UAE for over 14 months. Celina has sought urgent legal and medical help through the Delhi High Court and MEA. Despite limited consular visits, she remains hopeful after a recent court judgment.

The brother of Bollywood actress and former Miss India, Celina Jaitly, is Major (Retd.) Vikrant Kumar Jaitly. He is a veteran paratrooper from the Indian Army’s 3 Para Special Forces and a fourth-generation soldier who has received the Chief of Army Staff Commendation for Gallantry. The actress has moved the Delhi High Court, seeking urgent help for her brother, who has been detained in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for over 14 months. She has appealed to the Indian government through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to ensure that her brother receives proper legal and medical assistance.

Why is Celina Jaitly’s brother in the news?

On Monday, the Centre’s counsel, Nidhi Raman, informed the Delhi High Court that Vikrant has been arrested in connection with an unspecified case. She added that the Ministry is in communication with his wife. Specific details about the reason for the detention of Celina Jaitly’s brother are still unclear. Raman also mentioned that Vikrant has been granted consular access in the UAE.

Celina Jaitly attended the court proceedings, represented by lawyers Raghav Kacker, Ribhav Pande, and Madhav Aggarwal, as reported earlier by Hindustan Times. Vikrant has been residing in the UAE since 2016, working with the MATITI Group, which specializes in trading, consultancy, and risk management services, according to PTI.

Celina Jaitly’s efforts to seek help

Celina revealed that she has pursued all possible routes to obtain assistance from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for her brother’s safety and legal support. She has lodged a complaint through the MADAD portal and submitted numerous written appeals to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Consulate in Dubai, as well as directly to the External Affairs Minister.Additionally, Celina said she has personally met with officials from the Ministry, dedicating significant time, effort, and financial resources to secure help.

Consular visits and court relief

The actress stated that her brother has been in detention for over a year but has received only four consular visits — in May, June, August, and September 2025. She also claimed that the MEA marked her complaint on the MADAD portal as “closed,” even though her brother’s case remains unresolved. After the court hearing, Celina expressed relief and described the decision as a “ray of hope” for her family. She shared that the past year has been extremely difficult, filled with fear and uncertainty. “It’s been a nightmare for me… I’m very grateful for today’s judgment,” she said, hoping this will help bring her brother home soon.
