When Brett Lee invited Anushka-Virat

'If you have a little girl...': When Brett Lee invited Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli to have their first child in Australia

Brett Lee humorously offered Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma the chance to have their baby in Australia, emphasizing acceptance regardless of gender. Anushka Sharma has previously spoken about prioritizing time with their daughter Vamika, recognizing her need for her presence. The couple views parenting as shared duties within a family unit, aiming for a balanced upbringing for their child.

After Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma announced their first pregnancy in 2020, Australian cricketer Brett Lee warmly invited the couple to come to Australia to welcome their baby.

Advice for soon-to-be father Virat

The fast bowler was in a conversation with Mid-Day when he was asked to share a piece of advice for soon-to-be father Virat Kohli. As a reply, he said, “Keep doing what you do.”

A lighthearted offer from Brett Lee

Then adding to it, Brett Lee said, “And if you like Mr Kohli.. you are welcome to have your child in Australia. Because we will accept you. If you have a little girl.. fantastic. If you have a boy, fantastic they might become a baggy green (laughing as he referred to the colours of the Australian cricket jersey).” LOL!

Anushka prioritizes time with Vamika

Earlier, at an event in Bengaluru, Anushka once spoke about how her daughter Vamika needed more of her time. “Virat is a great father. He is very involved as a parent. But she is at that age, we have also seen that she just needs me more. We recognize that. So, I have taken those steps,’ she said.

Shared parenting approach

In an old interview with Vogue, Anushka talked about her and Virat’s parenting duties. She shared, “We don’t see it as mum and dad duties, but as a family unit. For us, it’s important that our child be raised with a very balanced outlook. It is all about shared duties. I will be the primary caregiver, especially in the first few years, and that’s the reality. I am self-employed and I can decide when I am working if I do one or two films a year. In Virat’s case, he plays round the year. What becomes important is the time we spend together as a family.”
