Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1’ needs over Rs 30 crore to go past Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Stree’ collection
When Rishab Shetty had set out to make Kantara in 2022, neither he nor anyone associated with the film were aware of what a dent the film would make in the history of Indian Cinema. Three years later when the second installment of the series in Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 released , the film went on to break box office records with each passing day. And now at the end of 23 days the film has already become the ninth biggest film of Indian cinema and 2nd biggest hit of the year 2025.
But the journey hereon for the film is not going to be easy, as to jump one more position on the leadership board Kantara 2 will need to take very long and confident strides. The film is already in its 4th week and is currently facing heat from the new release Thamma headlined by Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. The battle with the new film has already caused a 50 % drop in its collection.
And on 31st October, SS Rajamouli is coming back with Prabhas, Rana Dagubbati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj with Baahubali- The Epic -re-cut version of both Baahubali films into one. The film is already creating a lot of buzz with just North American advance booking for premiere day crossing Rs 2 crore mark.
The journey for Kantara 2 from hereon is going to be difficult as the gap between itself and the next film milestone is more than Rs 30 crore. On the list of India’s biggest hits, on the the spot is Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 with a box office collection of Rs 597.99 crore and this year’s biggest hit is Vicky Kaushal and Laxman Utekar’s Chhaava with Rs 601.54 crore. Both these films ran for more than 8 weeks in cinema halls while Kantara 2 has just begun its fourth week- so it has time but it also faces strong competition from this point onwards.
